The collection celebrates Egypt’s rich pictorial traditions, drawing on the visual splendor that constitutes the religious structures, burial chambers and archeological sites found along the river Nile.
The pieces were born following Furmanovich’s visit to Egypt in January 2021, including iconic locations such as Philae, Kom Ombo, Edfu, Luxor and Karnak.
During her travels, Furmanovich chronicled and recorded in her diary a multitude of references that called her attention. Elements of Egyptian architecture such as friezes and stone reliefs are rendered in several techniques employed through Furmanovich’s career, including carvings, wood marquetry, miniature paintings and bead weaving.
The jewelry also explores the talismanic power of symbols found in Ancient Egypt, such as the lotus flower, the Eye of Horus, scarabs and flies. They are intricately carved in turquoise, alabaster, lapis lazuli, jasper, carnelian and chrysoprase. For the first time, Furmanovich is using papyrus mounted on wood in a series of one-of-a-kind pieces.
